Acting Principal Prattle
Welcome to Week 7, Term 4, 2008.

It is sooo quiet at School this week. Why? Because the Years 4-7 are on camp at Camp Burleigh. I know they will be enjoying their adventure in spite of the rain. All went well on the trip down and they were able to go fishing on Monday afternoon.

Has everyone seen our new School signs? A big thank you to Brad Densley. Brad was the driving force behind these signs. He designed them and worked closely with Kerry Nicholson to devise the finished product. Thank you too to all the men from the parent body who helped erect them last Saturday. Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Brad was very excited because 14.11.2008, was the 140th birthday of Steele Rudd. Keep your eyes peeled for an item in the Clifton Courier this week.

Last Friday we celebrated Steve Irwin Day where some of the students dressed in his signature khaki. We raised $15.00 for Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors, supporting the ground breaking Whale Research project.

Tysha Gillies a 4th Year USQ student is completing a practicum over the next two weeks.

The children have been busy in the garden during the past week. I have had lots of comments from parents and visitors about how great the gardens are looking. I always reveal our secret – that the children do the gardening. So well done everybody. The work always pays off and it is a bonus when it gets noticed. Keep up the good work Gardening Gurus.

I have had discussions with the children and with some parents about the upcoming Elections at School. It is important for all to remember that ALL Year 7 students in 2009 will be School Leaders. However, it was decided at a P & C Meeting about the other positions. The School will elect a School Captain. I explained to the children that this is a representative of ALL children and staff at the School – not just for the Year 7’s. I also explained that there can only be one School Captain. It is a very serious and important roll for any student to undertake. The other positions are minor and only if the children are interested in these positions do they campaign for them. It is possible that some of the children will be elected in more than one position. That is for the voters to decide. Not all children will have a minor position but I must reiterate that ALL Year 7’s will be School Leaders. The other positions are: Sports Captain, Two Library Monitors, Official Photographer and Gardening Foreman.

The P&C are conducting 4 Meat Tray Raffles, Friday Nights at the Wheatsheaf Hotel. Please support this great fundraiser by purchasing tickets Clifton Butchery kindly donates 2 of the meat trays and we thank them for their generosity. Next Tuesday is the last P&C Meeting for the year. Please try to attend to support the School and be involved in the education of your child.

Russell Simpson, Executive Director of the Downs Region, will be visiting the School this Thursday. Mr Simpson will discuss the results of the Year 3 5 7 tests conducted earlier this year. He will also discuss the School Opinion Surveys which were also conducted a couple of months ago. I am looking forward to his visit and anticipate he will give some idea about who will be the Principal next year.

Next Tuesday, the 4-7 children will travel to Brisbane for the Wonder Games. The Prep-3 will attend the performance of A Bush Christmas produced by the Fame Company. All children will travel to the venues by bus.

The Prep – 3 class have written invitations to their parents for a Christmas Luncheon on Thursday December, 4th. They will be cooking and serving the three course meal on the day. Mrs Bellingham is working hard to ensure it all comes together well. I can’t wait!

That’s it for this week! Enjoy the quiet parents and carers of the 4-7’s!
